The Terminator franchise began to take shape during one of James Cameron's trips to Italy. As he came down with a high fever, he had a terrible nightmare about a huge creature with red-glowing eyes that was trying to kill him. This nightmare inspired him to write the Terminator story. The first movie premiered in 1984, and has spawned two sequels, with a third due for a 2009 premier. In addition, there has been a big production of novels, comics, video games etc.
