It should be noted that Terminator Salvation was designated as a "soft reboot" for the franchise as various settings from Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines have been neglected in the film Terminator Salvation, including Cyber Research Systems, which does not exist in the Terminator Salvation timeline while Cyberdyne Systems is brought back to the story whereas the company apparently ceased to exist in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.

Although Sarah Connor is presented as having passed away for a while, it is unknown if she died of leukemia as mentioned in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines or killed in the early Future War as mentioned in the novelization of Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
